HATTER'S BLOG #1: stop with the first names!

So I have a big pet peeve.... When people reference someone famous as though they know them or are buddies with them. Prime example Dave Mathews or Dave if you must. Seriously hippies, you can call him Dave but the closest you are going to get to the untalented musician is being hit by a warm blast of loose feces from his tour bus.

And now outside you see the waves in her eyes.

I love the new Beirut EP, but especially the second half credited to earlier Zach Condon incarnation "Realpeople". The video is shitty quality... So here instead is their recent performance of "A Sunday Smile" from Letterman.

I want Condon to continue his new/old love for electronic sounds.

Ondine gets a score.

Pitchfork is reporting that Sigur Ros's keyboardist is scoring the new Neil Jordan film, Ondine. This fall: airy Icelandic music, mermaids, Colin Farrel, Stephen Rea and Neil Jordan's camera.

I'm in.

Is 2009 the new 2007?

Seriously, can this year beat back 2007 as the best of the decade? It seems possible, perhaps even likely. Just look at this potential Cannes lineup:

Jim Jarmusch's The Limits of Control
Quentin Tarantino's Inglourius Basterds
Terrence Malick's Tree of Life
Pedro Almodovar's Broken Embraces
Steven Soderbergh's The Informant / Girlfriend Experience
Ken Loach's Looking For Eric
Neil Jordan's Ondine
Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus
The Coen Brothers' A Serious Man
Lars von Trier's Antichrist
Cristian Mungiu's Tales From the Golden Age
Gaspar Noe's Enter the Void
Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock (note: Brian hates Ang Lee)
Fatih Akin's Soul Kitchen
Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon
Jane Campion's Bright Star
Todd Solondz's Forgiveness
Park Chan-wook's Thirst

Plus we are still waiting on the releases of: John Hillcoat's The Road, Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, Martin Scorsese's Ashecliffe, Wes Anderson's The Fantastic Mr. Fox and the new PIXAR film.

excited? yes.
